1971 - Soul to Soul

On March 6, 1971, some of the greatest artists in popular music history traveled from the United States to Ghana, West Africa, to take part in a 14-hour musical celebration, Soul To Soul. Over 100,000 enthusiastic locals gathered for this unique cultural exchange between two continents. This award-winning film combines classic concert performances with scenes documenting the artists getting in touch with their roots as they return to the cultural motherland.
The show was held in Black Star Square (now Independence Square) on the Gulf of Guinea.
The concert was filmed and released in August 1971. It featured extensive excerpts from the concert performances, along with documentary footage of the musicians interacting with local Ghanaians in the days before the show.

Tina sings: “Soul to soul", “River deep, mountain high", “Ooh Poo Pah Doo" and “I Smell Trouble".

Sometimes you've got to let everything go -- purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything . . . whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you'll find that when you're free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.

I never said "Well, I don't have this and I don't have that." I said, I don't have this yet, but I'm going to get it.

I will never give in to old age until I become old. And I'm not old yet!

I didn't have anybody, really, no foundation in life, so I had to make my own way. Always, from the start. I had to go out in the world and become strong, to discover my mission in life.
