1973 - Superstars in Concert: Sound of the City: London 1964-73

This documentary contains great music. This documentary pretty much shows us the British music scene with artists including The Rolling Stones, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Joe Cocker, the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, Pink Floyd, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens and Rod Stewart. We get various music clips taken from various concerts and even a few studio recordings. One of the highlights is an amazing version of "Satisfaction" from not the Stones but from Otis Redding who puts enough fire, soul and energy into the performance where he could call the song his own.
We get Hendrix doing some extremely hot numbers including "Hey Joe" and "Wild Thing" as well as a third song.
Joe Cocker brings down the house with a red-hot version of "With a Little Help from My Friends" but then again I've yet to hear a version of this where he didn't nail it.
Pink Floyd gets a couple songs but both of them are edited down including a version of "Careful with that Axe, Eugene." Fans of the music are certainly going to want to check this thing out since there's no denying the performances selected are of high quality and really pack a nice punch.
It offers footage of some extraordinary rock musicians of the mid-to-late '60s in their European concerts. The sound is often not from the concert itself, but from the performers' original recordings. A lot of the footage is in black-and-white, and all of it was shot on 16 mm film stock.

Ike and Tina perform “River deep, mountain high" and “I have been loving you too long".

Sometimes you've got to let everything go -- purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything . . . whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you'll find that when you're free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.

I never said "Well, I don't have this and I don't have that." I said, I don't have this yet, but I'm going to get it.

I will never give in to old age until I become old. And I'm not old yet!

I didn't have anybody, really, no foundation in life, so I had to make my own way. Always, from the start. I had to go out in the world and become strong, to discover my mission in life.
