1987 - What you get is what you see 7 Inch Single

"What You Get Is What You See" is a single from Tina Turner's album "Break Every Rule". This song was written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, and produced by Terry Britten. Another rockstar was playing the guitar on the track. No other than long time friend Eric Clapton.

"What You Get Is What You See" is an up-tempo rock song but could also be considered as country rock song. The song is about men’s behaviour towards women and this particular girl and that there’s more to people then meets the eye. It’s the player vs. the real stayer. However the girl is tempted by a lot of men and she still wants to be satisfied by the perfect men.

Tina shot an official video for the song and it was taped in a desert town in the USA. She performed the song in tv shows such as Peter’s Pop Show and Tocata. She also performed the song at the American Music Awards. The song became the opening song for her concerts during the Break Every Rule World Tour in 1987/1988. She also performed the song live at some venues during the Foreign Affair Farewell Tour 1990 and the What’s Love Live Tour 1993/1994. "What You Get Is What You See" was included again for Tina’s 50th anniversary tour in 2008/2009.

"What You Get Is What You See" was released as 7" single and there are also various versions in 12" singles like the special double 12" pack with remixes.

The B-side however was a live version of the song.
In 1989 the song charted again in Australia. The song was used for a Rugby League commercial.

"What You Get Is What You See"
What you get is what you see

Album: Break Every Rule - 1986

Some boys got the look of a Greek Adonis
Some boys try to talk you off your feet
Some boys think they're gods gift to woman
Some boys think they're sweet enough to eat
Try to change the habit of a lifetime
Don't even try
Cause when you cut down deeper than the icing
You realize

[Chorus:]
What you get is what you see
Ain't nothing more to it
And if you wanna love a woman like me
It takes a man to do it
If what you get is what you see
Then I don't want your kind of love

Some guys got lips that you can't help kissing (Muh, muh, muh)
And some guys got a smile you can't resist
Some guys gotta build a reputation
They just wanna add you to the list
You got a lot of physical attraction
I can't deny
But can you guarantee me satisfaction
While I'm still waiting, waiting, waiting...

[Chorus]

So let me see your cards on the table
Before I buy
I always read the writing on the label
So give me reason to believe there's more to you than meets the eye

[Chorus]
